Casey Coffield has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:
He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is endless.
Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.

Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing, but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.

On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem. They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.

All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music industry.

But sometimes dreams get messy when they collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?

In Your Dreams, in Five Words

Dreams. I suppose that one’s kind of obvious, but it’s the root of the entire story. Chasing dreams. Figuring them out. Fearing them. Wanting them. Wishing. Holding onto them. Changing them. Bending them. Letting them go. That word defined every corner of this book.

Duty. One of the most important threads to In Your Dreams is the sense of duty that is the creed Casey’s father lives by. It stands in the way of dreams, and Casey can’t understand how you could possibly choose duty first…over your passion.

Courage. This one is 100 percent Murphy’s word. She is courage. Even when she’s not being brave. Not every courageous act is grand, and some of them come in baby steps—inching your way to the goal. Murphy’s courage is quiet…until it’s not.

Family. The Sullivans and the Coffields are incredibly different families. This story also throws in a third element—Houston’s family (from book 3 in the Falling series). You get the warmth that Casey craves at Houston’s home, and you see how drawn he is to it in Murphy’s. But his own family is defined by different qualities. Providing for one another is at the center of every decision, but it comes at a cost—Casey’s youth was full of coldness and loneliness. This story really opens up those dynamics and explores the different colors of love—even its ugly side.

Selflessness. I’m not going to say much about this word, but just know that it takes us all a while to get to it. Even Casey Coffield.

DARK NOTES by Pam Godwin - REVIEW

(Slideshow will restart automatically.)

If you've ever read a book by Pam Godwin you might expect this to be a dark and sexy read and you'd be right. This is dark, but it is also so sweet and hopeful.

Ivory has a terrible home life. Her mother is a druggie that stays away from home more often than not. Her older brother is a deadbeat druggie that physically abuses her at the drop of a hat and her brother's army friend that abuses her in terrible and cruel ways. The only thing that gets her through is the love for her cat and her dreams of attending a prestigious music university so she can study with the best of the best. She has spent the last four years of her life attending an exclusive music school thanks to her late fathers sacrifice. A sacrifice that has made her mother and brother very bitter.

Ivory hasn't had it easy at school because she doesn't have money like the other students. Like seriously! No money. Her tuition was paid in advance thanks to her father, but she is still responsible for everyday bills and her own needs like clothes and school supplies. She has had to device a plan to survive no matter how much she hates what she has to do. In addition to the abuse she is subjected to at home, she suffers at the hands of many of the boys at school. She's come to expect it since men take, take, and take.

Her life changes on the first day of her senior year. It's the day the new piano teacher starts at her school. Emeric Marceaux is a virtuoso and has a passion for teaching and when he finds out that he is going to be Ivory's teacher every afternoon for the entire school year he doesn't know if he'll be able to control himself. Emeric has a need to control. A need to claim Ivory and take care of her. When he finds out the kind of life Ivory endures he decides he'll do whatever it takes to make her safe and loved. Even though it risks his career and her education.

DARK NOTES is amazingly beautiful. You can feel the love between the two throughout the length of the novel. Even though there are obstacles (sometimes really BIG obstacles) Emeric and Ivory keep communication open and remain honesty with each other. They love each other in spite of their flaws and together they build a life. Ivory just has to decide what that life will be like. Does she really want the symphony or does she want something more?

IN YOUR DREAMS by Ginger Scott - REVIEW

Let me start by saying that IN YOUR DREAMS can stand alone. It is technically part of The Falling Series, but more of a companion. You at least should read THE GIRL I WAS BEFORE (Falling #3) though because you'll meet most of the characters that play major roles in this book.

Casey is a DJ with dreams of mixing music for a record company. In fact, he'd like to own his own record label so he'd have the freedom to do what he wants with is music.

When a friend shows him a YouTube video of a girl singing a song named for him he's both confused and excited. Confused because he doesn't know why this girl would be singing about him. He doesn't remember her at all. Excited because she has the best voice he's ever heard and he knows he can make her sound even better. The song doesn't make it sound like she likes him very much, but he does everything he can to track her down and attempt to get her to work with him on an official recording of the song she performed.

Murphy Sullivan went to high school with Casey. He never did anything to her and the only reason she used his name in the song was because he just irritated her in a general kind of way. She doesn't like singing in front of people. She has to force herself to perform at Open Mic Night every week and she couldn't believe it when a friend of her's posted a video of her singing on YouTube. Music is her passion. She just doesn't know if she'll ever have the guts to do anything about it.

When Casey finally tracks Murphy down he attempts to convince her to work with him on a recording. He's got an intern position at a record company and got permission to use the studio equipment after hours. Murphy reluctantly agrees. Together they make beautiful music. Casey puts together a plan to get Murphy noticed, but it doesn't turn out like either of them expected.

Throughout the course of their working relationship, Casey falls deeply in love with Murphy. For him, the connection is important. The only family he really has is Houston, his best friend, since his father basically disowned him when Casey told him he was going to pursue music instead of following in his father's footsteps. Casey is desperate for a sense of belonging and he thinks he can have that with Murphy. Murphy has a hard time trusting though. It takes a major sacrifice on Casey's part for her to see exactly how much he loves her.

I've loved all of the books in The Falling Series. I have a real soft spot for Houston (who you meet in Book 3) so I'm glad he plays a fairly large part in this book. I also like Casey. My heart just hurt for him while I read about his family situation.  Casey and Murphy make a great couple. I was completely happy with all the events in the story.

Here is an excerpt:

I pass through the kitchen and front room to the main door, knowing nobody will follow. I close the heavy door behind us and walk with Murphy to my car parked in front of the neighbor’s house, and then I unlock her door and pull it open. She steps in front of me to get inside, her eyes meeting mine by chance, the gray like lightning, like a sign that for once, I did something right, and my heart surges.
My hands act fast, catching her face in my palms as her body turns and I step in so I’m flush against her. My hands slide quickly into her hair, her lip quivers as I stare at it, and my gaze flits to her eyes and back to her waiting mouth. The soft pink like fruit. I hunger to taste it, and my tongue passes over my lips as my eyes roam over her delicate features, so fragile in my hands. My eyelids grow heavy, and my chest seizes—breathing becoming harder by the millisecond, and finally I close my eyes and rest my forehead on hers, our lips almost touching, but not quite.
Not like this.
In Your Dreams, the Story Behind the Story

1. There is a Biore strip scene that I adore in this book. It was inspired by a very successful Tuesday night Biore strip moment of my own.

2. Casey’s character came to be because of Calvin Harris and Ryan Lewis—geniuses. Just not your typical rock stars.

3. The Falling series is set in Oklahoma—Stillwater all the way to Norman—because A: my daddy is from Oklahoma; and B: I went there with the Fiesta Bowl committee once, and fell in love with some of the kindest people in the world. I made up town names for In Your Dreams because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers for OSU and UofO alums—I understand how deep rivalries work. I’m a Sun Devil.

4. Sometimes I’m really moved by music when I write, and other times, I need complete silence. This book was a mix; when Murphy needed to sing, I busted out my eclectic Spotify playlist. I mention Ratatat in the book—if you don’t know them, you’ll find them on the playlist, too. Find it and all of my playlists here: https://open.spotify.com/user/thegingerscott - be warned, I’m an audiophile nerd and my tastes run the gamut.

5. There’s a tiny hidden Easter Egg shout-out to the great John Hughes in this book. If you find it, let me know;-)

6. I love the name Murphy and have been dying to use it in a book. It’s never been the right girl for the job until now.

7. If you remind me on twitter or through an IG message, I’ll post a picture of the place near my house that inspired Casey’s dream studio building. It’s been turned into a distillery in real life, and it’s hella cool.

BOUND FOR PLEASURE series by Ashley Black

V (Victor Trentham), the lead singer for the wildly popular rock band Distortion is a complex man. He values nothing more than his creativity and is willing to go through anything to get the results he wants. He's a perfectionist. He's demanding. He's temperamental. He's the sexiest man Gwen has ever seen.

Gwen gets hooked up with V because of her graphic design background. She's hired to design Distortions next album which requires them to spend a lot of time together. It doesn't take long for the sparks to fly as their attraction becomes unavoidable. Their connection is explosive, but something about V makes starting a relationship with him difficult.

V has very specific sexual needs. In order to be satisfied he needs to be humiliated, bound, gagged, controlled. He craves submission and needs a women willing to dominate him. He wants Gwen to be his Dom. She can't deny that she wants V, but she isn't sure she can say the things he wants. Hurt him the way he needs. If she wants a relationship with him she knows she has to try.

V's needs aren't the only thing making a relationship difficult. Apparently, Raven, V's crazy, ex-wife is determined to take V down. She doesn't care who gets in the way either. Both Gwen and V get in her crosshairs with disastrous results.

Suspense and mystery surround V and Gwen as they attempt to find their way as a couple. Things are rocky from the get go and everyone around them has an opinion. Gwen's dads don't want her in a relationship with V and neither does one of her best friends, Brendan. Ben, one of V's bandmates wants better for Gwen - meaning he wants her for himself. All of the turmoil wears on Gwen, but she is determined to love V. She is convinced they are meant to be. She just has to make V believe he deserves better than what he expects. She need him to believe his creativity comes from inside with or without the dangerous stunts he pulls.

Each of these books are fast paced and end with a bang. You'll want to go straight into the next installment as soon as you get to the last page.

Books 1 - 3 are already available. Book 4 will be released in a couple of months. Check out the links below to order.

EXCERPT:
She breathes in slowly, rolling on her back and stretching her arms over her head. The black T-shirt she’s wearing rides up enough that I see her sides and bare stomach above her low-slung jeans, and I think to myself how far I’ve come. Any other girl, some other place and time, and I would be switching gears right now, capitalizing, because I always get the girl. I just don’t always keep the girl. They learn things, grow tired of me, or, more often, I am bored and done before anything has a chance. It’s never been the right girl, really. But Murphy…she’s a keep kind of girl. And this whole thing started because she hates me, so patience is necessary. But I have had my hand on that stomach. I’ve felt how warm her skin is through layers of fabric. I bet her skin is searing bare.

Patience isn’t a virtue. Patience is a murderer of six-foot-one fools desperate to kiss girls who sing like angels and look like my dreams.

UNDONE by Callie Harper

A children's librarian and a rock star. At first glance it doesn't seem like a likely match, but once you take a closer look, you see they fit together like the pieces of a puzzle.

Anika (Ana) Ivanov young woman living on her own in New York City. She comes from a very protected life - her parents still worry over her being away from home, but she is determined to live her life as she sees fit. While her parents hoped for her to become a concert pianist, Ana's didn't the drive for that life and instead went to school to obtain a Master of Library Science and become a children's librarian. [SIDENOTE: I also have a MLS and am a librarian. I was a school librarian and worked with elementary and middle school kids until I finished my Ph.D. and started working at a university teaching in a MLS program.]

Ash Black is a ROCK GOD. He's the lead singer of wildly popular band and in a bit of a pickle in regards to his public image. His ex-girlfriend set him up. She recorded their very public break-up that she staged which made him look like a giant ass. Now, he's known as the guy who broke the heart of American's sweetheart. His publicity team comes up with a plan. He needs to find a nice girl to have a fake relationship with for a month. During that time they'll be sure to stage photo ops to make it look like he's a great guy and falling in love. He'll ask this girl to marry him during his scheduled Superbowl Halftime performance to the delight of the fans. Then, a couple of weeks later, the fake girlfriend will break up with him, which will in turn get him public sympathy.

Even going out for a simple cup of coffee isn't possible anymore. While being chased by the paparazzi, Ash ducks into the first building he can find and hides behind a desk. It turns out he ran into Ana's library branch. As any good children's librarian can, she handles the craziness with calm and grace. She sends the rude photographers out of the library and give Ash refuge. Of course, Ana realizes who Ash is once she gets a good look at him. She's been a fan of the band for ages and listens to their music all the time. She considers this her one brush with celebrity as she takes Ash to the back entrance to leave.

But, Ash has a proposition for her. He wants Ana to be his fake girlfriend for the month. He's willing to pay her just about anything she wants and it turns out that Ana needs something very important. Her library branch is about to be shut down due to lack of funding. In exchange for her services, she asks Ash to agree to fund her branch for twenty years. He gladly accepts her condition and get his lawyers on it. Soon Ana is flooded with non-disclosure agreements and contracts to sign. She is whisked away for shopping and beauty treatments. Her first thoughts are, What did I get myself into?

UNDONE is told in three parts and the second story in the BEG FOR IT series. Ana and Ash are so hot together that there is sexual and emotional tension throughout every part of the story. At times it's also heartbreaking because you see how things are going wrong and you want to yell at them to open their eyes and see what's happening right in front of them. Ash is surrounded by the wild life and finds it hard to break away from his bandmate and best friend who isn't taking well to Ash's growing feelings toward Ana. Ash finds himself torn - does he follow his heart or stay loyal to his band?

Volumes 1 and 2 are available RIGHT NOW. AND as an added bonus, Volume 1 is FREE. Volume 3 will be released on March 28th and is available for preorder.  If you haven't read anything by Callie Harper yet, this is the time to start. It doesn't matter if you haven't read the first story in the BEG FOR IT series because UNDONE stands alone just fine. I'm just now going back to read UNLEASHED, the first in the series. UNTAMED will be the third and I'm dying to read it. I can't wait to see Heath's story.

The first in the BEG FOR IT series is UNLEASHED.

ROCK by J.A. Huss

Book Synopsis:

My American Dream just shattered and they think I did it on purpose. They have sentenced me to hell by sending me back to the last place I want to be. They have people watching me twenty-four-seven. They want the truth about how my band mates died, and they’re going to get it, no matter what.
No matter how hard I fight. No matter how many times I deny it. No matter what it takes, the truth is going to catch up with me.
I am Rowan Kyle Saber. I am RK. I am Rock. Ex-lead-singer for Son of a Jack. Ex-addict, ex-friend, ex-boyfriend, ex-brother… and presently in denial.
Welcome to Grand Lake, Colorado, where all my nightmares started. Welcome to the past. Welcome to the present. Welcome to RK’s fucked up life.
The only thing holding me together is her. But even that might be a lie.
Poor RK. He's lost everything - is band mates and his one true love. Now he finds himself in his hometown where he never wanted to return in order to recuperate.

He's immediately confronted with the past when the identical twin of his one true love confronts him in his childhood home. Or is it the twin? The one that tricked him over and over again, pretending to be the one he loved.  Soon he doesn't know what to believe? Could it be that Melissa is really alive?

The mystery and suspense in ROCK is great. The mystery of Melissa and Melanie really makes you think. I went back and forth several times on what I thought. In addition to the Melissa/Melanie plot there is the mystery of what really happened to his band mates. Could his memory of that night be wrong? Why has he been blacking out?

Lucky for RK he has many people in his life and hometown that care about him. They work to keep him safe and help him heal. Finally, he starts to make headway as he begins to let music back into his life and he's open to remembering what really happened.

I've enjoyed all of J.A. Huss' books, but this one seemed to have a lot more suspense than the other ones. I loved it.

Callie Harper's UNDONE Book Spotlight

goodreads link
Take one bad boy rock god. Mix slowly with one wholesome librarian. Add a dash of paparazzi, a twist of scandal, and you won’t believe how good this dish tastes.

Ash

It’s pretty easy being a rock god. Party. Perform. P*ssy. Repeat. I’m 26 and it’s worked for me for years. Until I was caught ripping out the heart of America’s Sweetheart in a video gone viral. Now #HatePlayerAsh is trending on Twitter, she’s writing a song about how much I suck and I’m in desperate need image rehab, fast. Good thing paparazzi chased me into that library. Had I not ducked under that desk I never would have found myself next to the long, sexy legs and disapproving gaze of Anika Ivanov. In my world of use and get used, she’s a unicorn. A kind, 24-year-old, hard-working, family-oriented children’s librarian. My agent agrees, she’s the one to set everything right. All she needs to do is fake a month-long public romance, let the world see me fall hard for her, then dump me in a brutal, public display. It’s genius. Now I just have to convince her to agree. And convince myself that the only reason I want to spend the month with her is to improve my image. It’s not her full, luscious lips or her soft, seductive laugh or those fantasies I keep having of tying her down to my bed as I make her quiver and pant and call out my name.

Ana

Ash Black. In my library. Under my desk. It’s hard to believe it happened. I’ve listened to his voice so many times, my favorite soundtrack as I walk the streets of New York. My secret bad boy crush, the smoldering, shirtless star of the tabloids, all muscles and tattoos. Then one day he shows up and kisses me in my break room. What’s even crazier is how he wants me to spend the next month. At his shows in L.A., San Francisco and Vegas, candlelight dinners in New York and Paris. He wants the world to believe he’s fallen in love. With me. I’ve got to say no. He’s a walking disaster with a dirty mouth and wicked hands that melt my panties right off of me. This month would take everything in my well-ordered, neat little life and shake it up like a snowglobe. Then why am I so tempted to say yes?

NOTE: Undone is a three-volume hot adult romance. It’s the second story in the Beg for It series about the dominant, alpha males in Ash’s family and the strong, sexy women who make them finally meet their match.

  Excerpt
Aw, fuck. My head hurt like someone had cut it open with a broken bottle. Maybe someone had? I brought my hand up, tentative. Nope, everything intact. Just my skull in the grips of a massive, relentless hangover. Nothing new. Then why did I feel like something new had happened?

With a groan, I shifted my weight on the bed and swung my legs over the side. Slow and steady, that’s how you won the race. Or moved your aching, hard-partying body the morning after an epic night of tearing through Vegas. Much like the night before and the night before that. People expected nothing less from hotter-than-hell rock god Ash Black. Trashed hotel rooms, run-ins with paparazzi, X-rated scenes with starlets, I did it all while strutting around in leather pants and no shirt, my world-famous muscles and tats on full display. I always delivered.

But something else had happened last night. My mouth tasted like soot and my head felt stuffed with cotton balls, the scratchy, cheap kind. I couldn’t remember. What was it?

Behind me, a feminine grunt emerged beneath wrinkled sheets. Strands of dark hair splayed across a pillow. Mandy Monroe, America’s sweetheart aka my plaything at the moment, had blonde hair. Huh. I thought we’d been hanging out last night.

Like a goddamned chainsaw, my goddamned phone buzzed with an incoming call. All the goddamned way across the hotel room. No way was I going to make it that far.

Down on the floor between my feet I spotted a tied-off used condom. So there was that. Wasted as I got, I used protection on autopilot. The world already had its hands full with just one Ash Black. No one needed any little Ashes running around. My cock got out and played each and every night, but procreation? Not going to happen.

The mystery woman next to me snorted in her sleep. What was she doing still in my bed? I liked my fun over and out—as in out of the room by the time I woke up. I pulled the sheet down.

Ah, yes, I remembered those tits, as big and gorgeous as only a plastic surgeon could shape them. I remembered them bouncing up and down as she rode me last night. I usually liked to dominate, play games of control, but last night I’d been too wasted to do more than let her climb on and ride me like a rodeo bull.

Tugging the sheet down some more, I swatted her lightly on the ass. “Up and out, Buttercup.”

Groaning, she opened her eyes. Her mascara had smeared down like a Halloween costume of a zombie prom queen. “You got to get going.” I pointed toward the door. I didn’t even try to make up an excuse, something lame about needing to take care of something. I didn’t ask for her phone number as she fumbled around and found her skimpy dress, pulling it on and zipping into her thigh-high boots. I was Ash Fucking Black. I didn’t give out my digits.

“So, thanks,” she mumbled. “If you ever want to, you know—”

“Yeah.” I gave her my signature wink. Class dismissed. And what did she do when I was such an asshole? She giggled and blushed, like they all did.

I could get away with anything. And I took full advantage of it. I was 26 now, but I’d been famous since I was 19 and my band charted its first number one hit. People called us the harder-driving, U.S. version of Coldplay. We had some Green Day in us, some Fun once you cranked them up. Some compared us to the Sex Pistols or Guns ‘n’ Roses. Whatever you called it or compared it to, we made music that made you jump up, dance your ass off and bang your head against the wall. No ballads, no whining, we made screw-the-consequences, fuck-it-all-I’m-going-for-it RAWCK.

There were lots of benefits to my status. Touring the world, VIP access to anything anytime, but at the top of my list had to be the constant supply of pussy. It wasn’t as if I’d been hard-up before I’d gotten famous. My father was Richard Kavanaugh, billionaire real estate mogul and investor. I’d learned early that being rich and handsome opened up all kinds of doors and legs. But it was when I picked up a guitar as a teenager that girls really started getting crazy. Waiting for me naked in my bed. Texting me videos of them making out with their girlfriends or playing with themselves as they thought of me.

By now, I’d gotten so used to the whole sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll routine it was almost boring. I was almost tired of it. Almost. Don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t playing a tiny violin of pity for myself. I was having the time of my life. Every night.

That was it, though. With the exact same shit every different day, every now and then in the midst of the wild and crazy carnival I’d have a whisper of a doubt. I’d look around and think, is that all there is? Then I’d do a show and get wasted and fuck groupies and nothing would matter all over again.

I’d been the bad boy for a long time now, my whole life really. I’d started off the black sheep in my family, doing nothing right in my father’s eyes, dark in my perfect older brother’s chip-off-the-old-block’s shadow. Then as the rocker, I’d become the poster boy for devil-may-care defiance. I’d spent years riding that long wave of adolescent rebellion while I proudly held up my middle finger.

Sometimes I wondered what it would feel like to stop. Get off the crazy train. Be still and silent for even a moment.

When media darling Mandy Monroe and I first got together a couple months ago, I’ll admit it, I’d been curious about her. Everyone knew her story, the daughter of a coal miner from West Virginia discovered on American Idol. Seventeen years old and singing her heart out with those big, brown eyes and long blonde hair, the world had fallen in love with her. I’d wondered, maybe it would be different with her? She’d certainly grown up outside the bubbles I’d lived in my whole life. Maybe she’d be real?

I didn’t know what kind of person Mandy had been at 17. But at 22, the Mandy I got to know was as vicious and shrewd as they came, always angling for the right PR shot, constantly scheming about how to stay on top of the headlines. It hadn’t taken me long to realize her sugary image had nothing to do with her sour reality. The only reason things had dragged on as long as they had between us was we were never in the same place at the same time. Until last night. We’d gone out to dinner here in Vegas. Hadn’t we?

My phone buzzed again. With a deep down-to-the-bones groan, I stumbled across the room to retrieve it. I still didn’t get there in time to pick up. The screen announced that I had 15 missed calls, 10 from my agent, four from my PR firm, one from my older brother.

Uh-oh. My big brother never called unless it was to give me shit. I’d done something to screw up. What was it?

My phone rang again in my hand. My agent. With a sigh, I picked up.

“Yeah?” My voice creaked out, gravelly and hung-over.

If words came across visually, his would be bright red and all caps. “WHAT THE FUCK? YOU’VE FUCKED UP ROYALLY THIS TIME!”
