DIRTY STOLEN FOREVER by Nazarea Andrews - REVIEW

SYNOPSIS:

Colt Rayburn loved Aiden Delvin, once. A lifetime ago. Before duty and the Marines took him a world away, chewed him up and spit him out.

Aiden would have waited forever for Colt to come back. But Colt didn’t want that, and he’s rebuilt his life. Without the man he loves.

When Colt comes home from a deployment that went wrong, Aiden is there. Inexplicably back in Green County and impossible to resist. He swore he’d never go back to that place, never destroy Aiden the way he had when he walked away the first time.

But Aiden grew up and changed too, while Colt played war hero.

Both of them know what they want. After all this time. But can a love story that destroyed them once be rebuilt, when life and duty still hangs over them both…

The second in a sexy new series about Green County, and the people who serve there.

REVIEW:

Colt is home after a devastating loss in Afghanistan. While he is happy to see his family and be in a familiar place with modern conveniences again, he is sad about the reason. The one person he wasn't prepared to see was Aiden. The boy he loved before the Marines sent him across the world.

Aiden never understood the reason Colt joined the Marines. Colt enlisted without even discussing it with Aiden, leaving him shattered and alone. Staying in Green County was too difficult because reminders of the life he could have had with Colt was around every turn. He's only back because his brother needed him.

When Colt and Aiden see each other at the local bar, things are tense and awkward. They both know that the attraction is still there, though. Colt just doesn't know how to bridge the gap between them and Aiden doesn't know if he wants to open himself up to heartbreak again and holds himself back.

Colt and Aiden's past is revealed through a few flashbacks that give us a good picture of what pushed Colt to join the Marines. Watching Colt open up to Aiden to reveal the truth is hard. Their relationship is so fragile and both he and Aiden are scared. Will Colt return to the Marines, leaving Aiden again? Is Aiden planning to go back to New York to continue his artistic life surrounded by other artists? They'll have to trust each other to move forward.

I don't read many M/M romances and I'm happy to say that this one is amazing! I was sucked into the story immediately and desperately wanted it to work out for Colt and Aiden. Something else I loved about this story is the acceptance that Colt and Aiden receive from family and friends in regards to their relationship. It is a non-issue, which is so needed in literature. This isn't a GLBT story. It is a love story. A second-chance romance. A story about family. The two main characters just happen to be male.

The Green County Series is definitely one you should read. The first one, DIRTY SEXY SECRET was great, too. You can read my review here.

THE HARD COUNT by Ginger Scott - REVIEW

THE HARD COUNT
Mature YA Contemporary Romance-Stand Alone
Release Date: July 15, 2016
Goodreads:  http://bit.ly/1O7xc52

Google Play: http://bit.ly/29Bc3j4

Nico Medina’s world is eleven miles away from mine. During the day, it’s a place where doors are open—where homes are lived in, and neighbors love. But when the sun sets, it becomes a place where young boys are afraid, where eyes watch from idling cars that hide in the shadows and wicked smoke flows from pipes.

West End is the kind of place that people survive. It buries them—one at a time, one way or another. And when Nico was a little boy, his mom always told him to run.

I’m Reagan Prescott—coach’s daughter, sister to the prodigal son, daughter in the perfect family.
Life on top.
Lies.
My world is the ugly one. Private school politics and one of the best high school football programs in the country can break even the toughest souls. Our darkness plays out in whispers and rumors, and money and status trump all. I would know—I’ve watched it kill my family slowly, strangling us for years.

In our twisted world, a boy from West End is the only shining light.
Quarterback.
Hero.
Heart.
Good.
I hated him before I needed him.
I fell for him fast.
I loved him when it was almost too late.

When two ugly worlds collide, even the strongest fall. But my world…it hasn’t met the boy from West End.

REVIEW:

There is so much I liked about this book.
  • I love Nico and Sasha's friendship and how they were able to start connected even after Sasha moved away.
  • I love how Reagan's father (the football coach) took her opinions about Nico seriously when she approached him about Nico playing for the team.
  • I love how Nico and Reagan's relationship grew and changed over the course of the story. It was a relief to read a story that didn't have insta-love between the main characters.
  • I appreciate how Ginger Scott showed how petty and fickle adults act.
  • I love how much Nico loved his niece.
  • I love how Nico avoided the trouble in his neighborhood and didn't allow himself to get dragged down by drugs and violence.
  • I love how we saw Nico's brother break down and turn his life around when he was left to care for his daughter alone.
  • I love how Reagan's family rallied around Nico and supported him in his shot at a future in football.
  • I love how we saw Reagan's mom get a backbone and stop worrying so much about what the community thinks about her.
  • I love the future Ginger Scott gave Nico and Reagan. There is nothing but good things coming for those two. They are smart. They are devoted. They are strong. Together, they'll accomplish their goals.

I will point out that Ginger Scott mentions that this is a Mature YA. BUT, in my opinion, there isn't much in here that pushes it too far to the mature side. A little language; a little heat, but nothing over-the-top. This is a book that would be totally appropriate in a high school library.

THE HARD COUNT is a one-sitting read. Be prepared when you start. You won't want to stop.

SIDENOTE: I didn't know what a hard count was until I read the book. Very cool. Here is a website that explains it. http://www.sportingcharts.com/dictionary/nfl/hard-count.aspx

It's so clever. Basically, it tricks the other team into going offside (I think) be delaying the snap just a little bit. Here is a YouTube video that shows it.

REVIEW

First of all, I need to tell you that you should read the others in this series before you start DEEP REDEMPTION. You won't know what is going on if you don't.

Rider is alone and in a desperate situation since the events in the third book in the series. You can feel his growing despair. His feelings of hopelessness start creeping further and further in until he finds it hard to even imagine a life outside of his prison cell. The fact that his faith has been shattered and everything he's grown to think of as truth has been shown to be a lie has devastated him. He truly feels like he deserves death for all the pain and destruction he has caused - even if he wasn't aware the extent of some of the damage.

Even worse though is his twin brother's betrayal. How could his own blood turn his back on him? Beat him? Destroy him?

It isn't until Rider realizes someone has been placed in the cell next to his that he starts to see light in his world again. Harmony gives him a little hope, but when he realizes what she is being prepared for, he practically loses his mind. He'll stop at nothing to save her from harm - even if it means asking for help from the people who have no reason to help him at all. The people he betrayed. The people he realized were more family to him than his own twin brother.

DEEP REDEMPTION is an emotional read. You'll feel so much for Rider and really hope that everything turns out okay for him. If you haven't started this series yet, you need to. A word of warning though. This series is dark. It is violent. It features some very taboo subjects, but the author talks about them at the beginning of the book.

I can't wait for the next book in the series. There are so many characters I want to learn more about. Great job, Tillie. Keep up the writing! We want more.

BEAST by Alana Albertson - REVIEW

 SYNOPSIS:

Isabella—Grady Williams is a national treasure, the youngest living Medal of Honor recipient, America’s scarred superhero. With tattooed arms sculpted from carrying M-16s, this bad boy has girls begging from sea to shining sea to get a piece of his action.

When my father squanders away my college fund, I make a deal with this dirty-talking Devil Dog—I will pretend to be Grady’s girlfriend for the Marine Corps Ball, and my dad will write Grady’s war memoir.

Grady is fearless. Hell, this badass jumped on a grenade to save his fellow Marines! As much as I crave him, I refuse to allow myself to become addicted to a dangerous man who will detonate my heart.

Grady—Isabella Cuesta is an angel who can see beyond my mangled skin, a pawn used to repay her father’s debt, a woman who makes me feel like a man instead of a monster.

But I no longer believe in fairy tales.

She’s mine until our contract ends. I’ll take her hard and rough, listen to all her hopes and fears, lay down my life to protect her.

This beauty will never let herself love a dangerous man like me—a man who has killed, a man who runs towards gunfire, a man who never backs down from a fight.

But without her love, I’m not a man—I’ll remain forever a beast.

REVIEW:

Grady Williams is a hero. He's the youngest ever to receive the Medal of Honor, but his status of America's Bravest Beast means nothing to him. He threw his body on top of grenade in the heat of battle in order to save his men, but the irony of it is that his best friend died during that same battle all the same. The survivor's guilt overwhelms him. He spends his time drinking and sleeping with the girls that throw themselves at him for a chance to bed someone famous. They act like they want him, but they don't want the real him. The one that is scarred for life and bitter. He doesn't think he'll ever find someone willing to look past his scars and anger.

When a frat party breaks out down the street from his house, Grady sees a chance to cut loose. With it being a costume party, Grady can wear a mask and fit in like a "normal" person. No one will stare at his hideous face. No one will recognize him as the "hero." Dressed at the Hulk, Grady hits the party, hoping to have a little fun. He never expects to find Isabella.

Isabella gets dragged to the frat party by a friend. As soon as she sees the Hulk she's intrigued. She is drawn to his presence and strikes up a conversation. When she witnesses him freak out over the fireworks she immediately sees he suffers from PTSD. As a Psych major she's familiar with the signs. Even after witnessing his breakdown, she still accepts his offer to come home with him. She knows what's going to happen and she doesn't want to stop it. A one-night stand isn't her norm, but she can't say no.

After a hot and heavy night, Isabella heads home. Grady thinks she left because of his face, but that isn't the case at all. She has secrets of her own. As a former Dancing Reality TV Show star, Isabella had some money saved and planned to use it for her college degree. Unfortunately, her father used it to save their family home. If she doesn't get more money soon she won't be able to finish school. Plus, they need more money to get out of debt. The dancing money just put off the bank for a short time.

Isabella's father is an author, but he hasn't had a best seller in a while. She decides that asking Grady for a favor is her last chance. She wants Grady to agree to allow her father to write his memoir - a story that the nation is dying to read. It will put her father back on top and make them enough money to get them out of financial troubles. When she approaches Grady with the request he is pissed. Just another person wanting something from him. Of course she wouldn't like him for who he really is. She only spent the night with him because she planned on asking for this all along. (TOTALLY NOT TRUE BY THE WAY.)

Isabella and Grady strike a deal. He'll allow her father to write his memoir if she agrees to spend some time with him alone to get to know him well enough to pull off acting as his girlfriend at the Marine Corps Ball that the President invited him to. During their time together they each eventually let down their guards in the hopes this arrangement could turn into the real thing.

I liked this retelling of Beauty and the Beast, but would have liked the ending drawn out a little more. It seemed rushed at the end and wrapped up a little too easily.

Daddy’s little girl is all grown up…

***Warning: This is an erotic novella.***

REVIEW:

Prepare yourself for insta-love, but....you kind of have to just suspend belief to enjoy some of these books anyway, so it shouldn't be a problem. Eden is the daughter of a VERY POWERFUL televangelist and has lived a majorly sheltered life. One night though, she decides to cut loose, she's 18 and ready to live life.

Zeke just got out of prison after serving time for killing the person responsible for the death of his ex-girlfriend. A friend of his owns a bar and gives him a job bartending. The bar owner also gives him a place to stay. On the night Eden shows up at the bar, ready to live a little, Zeke sees her and decides he has to have her. Just check out some of these teasers to get the feel for how hot the scenes are between this very innocent girl and this ex-con.

I think one of my favorite Eden lines is this one:

I don't know why, but it just cracked me up.

Anyway, Eden doesn't want to go home, but the best friend that was covering for her was forced to give up the information of her whereabouts.

I leave it at this.....this definitely has a cliffhanger ending. So if you don't like those, skip this until the other parts of the story come out. You've been warned. I was a little ticked at first, but got over it.
