Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000446_00060]SYNOPSIS:

Even when you know better…. There are a million reasons why Hazel Campton is off limits: she’s a journalist. I’m a cop. Oh, and she’s my foster sister. My secret is I didn’t care. I haven’t stopped wanting her since I slept with her the night before she left. She’s trouble. Always has been.

It’s hard to resist the thing you’ve always wanted… Growing up with Brandon Archer means I know him. Good. Bad. Everything in between. It’s just never mattered. My secret? That night. The one I stole, that’s kept me from Archer and Green County, for four years. Now I’m home, and nothing has changed. Except me. And not in the way that means a damn thing. Because I still want him.

Everything can change with a knock at the door… Secrets. Everyone has them. Archer. Me. This town. Perfection only runs surface deep in Green County. When there’s a knock at me door, it’s a familiar face all covered in danger, and all those secrets we hide? They’re about to come tumbling out.

The first in a sexy new series about Green County, and the people who serve there.

REVIEW:

I went into this book blind and ended up really liking it. I was a little surprised that there was such major crime/mystery to solve in an addition to the struggles between Hazel and Archer.

After a terrible crash that took the lives of many of the residents near Sanders Army Base four children were left orphaned. One girl got out of town, saved by an aunt that lived far away. Three kids weren't so lucky as to have relatives to claim them. Luckily, one woman was willing to take the three into her home and look after them. Archer was the oldest and Eli and Hazel were only a year apart and together they were known as the Airplane Orphans. They became each other's lifelines.

As would be expected, Archer, Eli, and Hazel each suffered trauma as a result of losing a parent although each of them handled it a different way. They each developed a role within their new family. Archer was the one to pull Hazel out of her isolation, Eli calmed Archer's rage, and Hazel gave Archer a reason to feel needed.

As the grew up, Archer and Hazel started to see each other differently. They never felt like brother and sister, but everyone else saw them that way. One night of passion changed everything for their trio. Hazel couldn't stop herself going into Archer's room late one evening and climbing into his bed. After fulfilling her dream of spending the night in Archer's arms, she has to muster the courage to follow through with her plan to leave town because she knows they could never be together. It would crush Eli and her adoptive mother, Nora.

Hazel was gone for four years and in the six months she's been home she's been hiding out. She's afraid to see Archer. Afraid of the secrets of coming out. But, Archer's had enough. With the intentions of just smoothing things over for the sake of their "family," Archer goes to Hazel's house to confront her. It doesn't take long for them to realize that their feelings are still the same. Soon they are involved in a hot, steamy, reunion and they don't know how they'll ever go back to being apart. Will Hazel be willing to going public if it ends up hurting Eli and Nora? What will everyone think if two of the Airplane Orphans become a couple?

In addition to the complicated relationship there is a major multiple homicide in town that Archer and Eli have to work. (Archer and Eli are partners). Turns out there are many secrets in town and these secrets are about to encroach on Archer, Eli, and Hazel's lives. Hopefully, they'll make it out alive.

I loved this book and never wanted to put it down.  The romance and the mystery are balanced in such a way that both parts are compelling. The conclusion to the mystery is so tragic and even though the crime was brutal, you still felt sorry for the perpetrators. Whether you are a mystery/suspense fan or a romance fan, you'll definitely want to put this book on your TBR pile.

DARE TO TAKE by Carly Phillips - REVIEW

Dare to Take by Carly Phillips

Date of Publication: May 3, 2016

Blurb

She was off limits,
But he couldn't resist.

There are just some guys you don't touch--even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her brother's best friend is up for grabs and willing, she can't resist. After all, she's wanted him for years...
On leave from the army, Tyler Dare WAS just looking for a little fun, but his best friend's sister is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.
Now years later, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It's his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he's never forgotten that he's coming after her . . . in more ways than one.

REVIEW:

This is the 6th book in a series, but the author writes it so it can also stand alone. I haven't read any of the others and didn't feel lost at all. I think this is a great skill. Any author that can give you enough background to the other series characters and still maintain an individual story is talented.

Ella has been a part of the Dare family since she was ten-years-old. She met Avery Dare at the hospital when they were both donating bone marrow at the behest of their inconsiderate fathers. Avery and Ella had a lot to bond over. The Dare brothers immediately pulled Ella into their circle and started watching out for her.

Now, several years later and in her early twenties, Ella is working as an assistant to a fashion photographer and getting to see the world. She's finishing up a job on the Carribean when she is mugged and left without money, identification, or assistance. In addition to this terrible turn of events, a hurricane is barreling toward her island. Ella calls Avery, her best friend in the world to let her know what's happening and she immediately goes to Tyler, one of her brothers for help. Tyler owns a security company so he is the perfect person to deal with getting Ella home safely.

The problem? Tyler and Ella have been at odds for several years. Ever since Ella snuck into Tyler's bedroom one night when he was home on leave from the Army. She was eighteen-years-old and convinced to sleep with her (it didn't take much convincing since Tyler had been attracted to her for years). He just so happened to take her virginity that night, too. Tyler didn't handle it well. He freaked out, feeling guilty for taking something so important from her. Guilty for having feelings for someone who is practically family. Tyler does what he does best when things get sticky. He ran!

His rescue mission to the Carribean guaranteed that he and Ella would have to talk about what happened all those years ago. He is determined to make it up to her. Convince her everything was his fault. He just didn't realize how much what he did affected her. Ella was convinced he freaked out because the sex wasn't good. Ever since she's been self-conscious and insecure with men. Breaking through her barriers and earning her trust is going to be hard.

When things start happening to Ella that lead Tyler to believe the mugging was more than a random act of violence, Tyler's security experience kicks into high gear. He investigates what she was involved in during the photo shoot to get to the bottom of the danger that now seems to surround Ella. Protecting her gives him the perfect excuse to stay close. Hopefully it will be enough time to convince her how he really feels and apologize for running from her all those years ago.

Below is the reading order for Carly's books. As you can see, she has a lot of crossover with her characters. The Dares siblings are featured in this series and their cousins are in the NY Dares series. Then, there is a spin off coming soon that features some family friends. That series is Billionaire Bad Boys. We see Kaden at the end of this book.

Carly also has the Dirty Sexy Series written with Erika Wilde. WOW! I love that series. Here is my review of DIRTY SEXY INKED! I can't wait for the third book, DIRTY SEXY CUFFED!

BOUND FOR PLEASURE series by Ashley Black

V (Victor Trentham), the lead singer for the wildly popular rock band Distortion is a complex man. He values nothing more than his creativity and is willing to go through anything to get the results he wants. He's a perfectionist. He's demanding. He's temperamental. He's the sexiest man Gwen has ever seen.

Gwen gets hooked up with V because of her graphic design background. She's hired to design Distortions next album which requires them to spend a lot of time together. It doesn't take long for the sparks to fly as their attraction becomes unavoidable. Their connection is explosive, but something about V makes starting a relationship with him difficult.

V has very specific sexual needs. In order to be satisfied he needs to be humiliated, bound, gagged, controlled. He craves submission and needs a women willing to dominate him. He wants Gwen to be his Dom. She can't deny that she wants V, but she isn't sure she can say the things he wants. Hurt him the way he needs. If she wants a relationship with him she knows she has to try.

V's needs aren't the only thing making a relationship difficult. Apparently, Raven, V's crazy, ex-wife is determined to take V down. She doesn't care who gets in the way either. Both Gwen and V get in her crosshairs with disastrous results.

Suspense and mystery surround V and Gwen as they attempt to find their way as a couple. Things are rocky from the get go and everyone around them has an opinion. Gwen's dads don't want her in a relationship with V and neither does one of her best friends, Brendan. Ben, one of V's bandmates wants better for Gwen - meaning he wants her for himself. All of the turmoil wears on Gwen, but she is determined to love V. She is convinced they are meant to be. She just has to make V believe he deserves better than what he expects. She need him to believe his creativity comes from inside with or without the dangerous stunts he pulls.

Each of these books are fast paced and end with a bang. You'll want to go straight into the next installment as soon as you get to the last page.

Books 1 - 3 are already available. Book 4 will be released in a couple of months. Check out the links below to order.

ROCK by J.A. Huss

Book Synopsis:

My American Dream just shattered and they think I did it on purpose. They have sentenced me to hell by sending me back to the last place I want to be. They have people watching me twenty-four-seven. They want the truth about how my band mates died, and they’re going to get it, no matter what.
No matter how hard I fight. No matter how many times I deny it. No matter what it takes, the truth is going to catch up with me.
I am Rowan Kyle Saber. I am RK. I am Rock. Ex-lead-singer for Son of a Jack. Ex-addict, ex-friend, ex-boyfriend, ex-brother… and presently in denial.
Welcome to Grand Lake, Colorado, where all my nightmares started. Welcome to the past. Welcome to the present. Welcome to RK’s fucked up life.
The only thing holding me together is her. But even that might be a lie.
Poor RK. He's lost everything - is band mates and his one true love. Now he finds himself in his hometown where he never wanted to return in order to recuperate.

He's immediately confronted with the past when the identical twin of his one true love confronts him in his childhood home. Or is it the twin? The one that tricked him over and over again, pretending to be the one he loved.  Soon he doesn't know what to believe? Could it be that Melissa is really alive?

The mystery and suspense in ROCK is great. The mystery of Melissa and Melanie really makes you think. I went back and forth several times on what I thought. In addition to the Melissa/Melanie plot there is the mystery of what really happened to his band mates. Could his memory of that night be wrong? Why has he been blacking out?

Lucky for RK he has many people in his life and hometown that care about him. They work to keep him safe and help him heal. Finally, he starts to make headway as he begins to let music back into his life and he's open to remembering what really happened.

I've enjoyed all of J.A. Huss' books, but this one seemed to have a lot more suspense than the other ones. I loved it.
